Early Years Foundation Stage
From 1st September 2008 the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) replaces the National Standards for all registered early years childcare settings – i.e. settings caring for children aged between birth and the 31st August following their 5th birthday. It also replaces the Birth to Three Curriculum Framework and the Foundation Stage Curriculum. It will be a legal requirement (children’s Act 2006) from this date for all settings providing early years childcare, including Registered Childminders, to implement the EYFS.
The overall aim of EYFS is to ensure all early years childcare settings help young children to achieve the government’s 5 ‘Every Child Matters’ outcomes of:
Staying Safe • Being Healthy • Enjoying & Achieving
Making a Positive Contribution • Achieving Economic Well-being
My Policy
As a Registered Childminder providing early years childcare I am required by law to implement the EYFS, as summarised above. In my setting I will comply with all the requirements of the EYFS as laid out in the document ‘Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage’ and have due regard to the accompanying guidance. I will work within the guiding principles & themes of the EYFS to ensure that I meet the individual needs of the children in my care in a happy, secure, stimulating and loving environment. In my setting children will be given appropriate opportunities to grow & develop to their full potential through play and exploration, based on their own interests and developmental stage.
